Career and Technical Education Month


Non-Traditional

The Area Career Center hosted 120 Freshman from the 4 Hammond high schools to its first Non-Traditional Careers Conference yesterday.  Students were able to spend an hour in 2 programs that are considered non-traditional for their gender based on Department of Workforce Development data.  Males had the opportunity to participate in  Culinary Arts, Health Science Careers, Dental Assisting, Cosmetology, Graphic Arts, and Early Childhood Education.   Females had the opportunity to participate in Auto Technology, Welding, Construction, Collision & Refinishing, Pre-Engineering, Criminal Justice and Computer Info Tech.  Students also heard from 3 former ACC graduates who have had success in non-traditional careers.

The Area Career Center prepares Career and Technical Education Students with career and college readiness skills to succeed, adapt to change and to become life-long learners in an ever changing global society.

The Area Career Center offers 16 Career and Technical Programs to junior and senior level students enrolled in the following Indiana District 2 public high schools - Calumet, Clark, Edison, Gavit, Griffith, Hammond, HAST, Highland, Lake Central, Morton, Munster, and Whiting.
